I bought a Ferry Morse gardening guide and it has great tips that I thought I'd pass along.
IF YOU HAVE:
Clay Soil...... add coarse sand(not beach sand), compost, and peat moss.
Silt Soil.....add coarse sand or gravel and compost or well-aged horse manure mixed with fresh straw.
Sandy...
The problem is....the plant itself is large with big flowers aaand tiny squash. The squash get about 2 inches and just quit growing and fall off. I was so looking forward to harvesting some squash soon.
Can I replant in hopes that they'll do better? I'm in zone 8
:bun:bun are eatin' my green bean leaves and I won't be able to finish putting a barrier up til the weekend! :hit I did manage to put chicken wire around some, but it wasn't enough...ugh.
Is there anything else I can do to keep the lil stinkers out in the mean time??
I bought 2 from Walmart's garden center about 2 wks. ago...they were doing fine when I planted them. This morning I checked them and they were looking great...this evening when I went to water them, they were wilted and some of the stems had fallen off.:hit What gives???
I planted both kinds the 1st wk. of March...I pulled a few today and the bottoms are small, but the tops are well over a foot long. How much longer for the bottoms to get larger? I'm in zone 8 btw.
