    My first Beek meeting

Dust inside your hive with powdered sugar for the mites....one of the older guys said that's what he does... I'm getting my first two hives in a couple weeks and I'm trying to figure out where to put them....my property is backwards, everywhere that is suitable for the hives gets no morning sun...

    Square foot gardening

Ours our 10 inches deep but my parents' are 18-24 inches deep cause they can't get down on their knees to garden anymore. We got some old tree pots that are huge from a landscaping company that was going to toss them anyway and we are growing our carrots in there.

    how many strawberries...

I think I'm gonna go get two 2x8x10s and make another big bed for them. I have to construct some potato cages too....geesh. We have a dumptruck load of topsoil/compost mix being delivered Tuesday and then I'll get everything in the ground.

    how many strawberries...

They are just the bags of "bulbs"...I have 8 4x4ft raised beds but I could always get the hubby to crank out a 4x8 for me just for the strawberries. I was thinking of doing a pyramid too but that seems like a lot of trouble.

    pruning fruit trees

I bought them this spring from a local greenhouse. They are about 6-8 ft tall and the pears are closer to 10 ft. The pink lady apple had about 10 or so apples on it when I bought it but they looked like they had some sort of black spots when I checked them this past week so I chucked them. I...

    almond trees

Does anyone know if I can grow almond trees in central Va? I know that a lot of them are grown in California but I would love to have a couple trees of my own. I am in zone 7. What kind should I get, I know there are flowering almond that don't actually produce nuts so I don't want those. Thanks!

    white dogwoods?

Take some black drainage tubing stuff that you put at the end of your downspouts(like my technical description?) and put that around it. It's plenty wide enought to allow the tree to grow but tough enough to keep the weed whacker away.

    will my fruit trees survive?

I posted this under the trees section but got nothing so I'll try here. My leaves have been completely eaten off of my apple and cherry trees by some sort of brown beetle. It literally happened overnight. I just planted the trees in May, will they survive? I still have apples on one tree but no...
