    Ants!

Thanks! I'm gonna go ahead and try the diatomaceous earth. I'll have the hubbs sprinkle it around the perimeter of the house too!

    Ants!

Si, this us my first year growing cukes, and they just started flowering. I haven't seen any bees around them, so yesterday I plucked a male flower, and placed it on the female. Today I went out to see the next female bloom, and noticed thief ants on my male blooms. They had taken: what looked...

    Melons

Thanks Red. I was just a little worried, because it hasn't grown much at all since planted. I don't use any food, or miracle grow though, so I'm sure that's what it's a little slower.

    Melons

So, I'm new to melons. I tried to grow some watermelon the summer before last, but it never came to fruit. My questions are, when should I let my cantaloupe fruit? I transplanted a 6" seedling a couple weeks ago, and it's been blooming. It's still very small, will it even fruit on it's own...

    How are those Tomatoes?

I just transplanted mine a few weeks ago. I transplanted mine a few weeks ago. I don't know if they're Early Girls, or Beefsteaks (they were given to me), but they are doing great! One already tried to fruit the first week I had them in, i had to nip that in the bud right away. We moved near...

    How is you're garden doing?

That's great for you Southern :thumbsup, I wish we were all that lucky this year. DigitS- my pumpkins are all small this year. We also had a very late, cool spring that stunted all our gardens. I don't know what to do about my pumpkins though. The vines just haven't grown very strong and can...

    How is you're garden doing?

There's not much left of mine. I planted tomatoes, pumpkins, corn, watermellons, and strawberries. My pumpkins haven't been doing so great this year, they started off strong but haven't been producing any large pumpkins. They ripen within a couple weeks, but hopefully they'll pick up soon and...

Would you....? Looking for some feedback

The offer in the add would be 'for free' ? Hmmmm, I might take it seriously. But if I wasn't sure, I would at least call out of curiosity, and upon talking to her would soon realize that she's serious! I personally would love to see my garden plowed by a team of horses. And the kids would love...

My tomatoes are taking 'forever' to ripen.

Thanks guys! Hoodat..... you're too funny. I actually happen to love BBQing zuchini so I guess I'm different lol. The good news is.....my tomatoes have finally started ripening! And you're too right, I don't think I'm going to be able to use em up fast enough. My fingers are crossed for you...

What could be making my corn stalks bow and break???

Thanks you guys. Luckily I won't be living in this area next year, so I won't have to deal with such strong winds. I just hope we find a house that has room for a garden :fl . But I think some bean poles would be fun to grow anyway so I'll have to try that. There's a few things I forgot to plant...

What could be making my corn stalks bow and break???

Thanks seedcorn. It's definitely the strong winds. I only have the one row, and I guess I should've planted them in a bunch or a circle. It's hard to find information like that for the home gardeners. I should've just asked you guys lol. But all is well, I'm still getting corn.

What could be making my corn stalks bow and break???

I don't know how to add images so a description will have to do but, the stalks are starting to bow. The two that have early corn are doing fine, but a couple of the others who have set out the pollen tasseles are bowed and the top pollen stem is snapped over. They aren't bearing any weight from...

Garden gloves, do you or don't you?

I plan on doing some more weeding today. I actually use Derma-Max Nitrile gloves. I'm not particularly fond of typical garden gloves because I can't 'feel' what I'm doing with my finger tips, and especially when pulling weeds, you need your finger tips to get a good hold on the base. I just...

My tomatoes are taking 'forever' to ripen.

I love your red cage Carol! I want I want! Lol. I actually had two ripening, but yesterday my 3yr old son decided to pick the one I'd been watching. So I'm back to just one reddish tomato.

My tomatoes are taking 'forever' to ripen.

Thanks Chris, that's what I always thought, never hurts to ask though ;). Weather does play a big role in ideal conditions though. And unfortunately there's no controlling that :(. I planted my garden April 11-12 and I've yet to pick one ripe tomato. My watermellons just had their very first...

My Cabbage Heads Split Open in the Garden

Have you tried it in a stir fry with onions, bell pepper, and mushrooms on a bed of rice with soy sauce? So delicious! I've been on a bit of a cabbage kick this year myself, I should've planted some. Happy harvest ;)

My tomatoes are taking 'forever' to ripen.

One more thing I've been curious about. I planted most of my garden from seen and the packages usually state: harvest after 50 days or 60-70. Now, does that mean from the time of planting? Or from the time the fruit or vegetables set?
