Thanks for your replies folks. I am growing 'gardeners delight' which is a cherry tomato and 'alicante' which is normal size. The leaves are off a gardeners delight.
The plants are in tubs and fed every day. Am I feeding them too much or drowning them? In previous years they used to go very...
The leaves are more yellow than they look in the picture. The plant is in a greenhouse as it is often cool at night here. It is about 5 ft tall and the leaves are small curled with purple edges.
This one does not look very good either. Am I drowning them by over-watering?
Try several methods and see what works best.
Take cuttings and plant them into gritty soil.
Bend a low down stem down and put a rock on it and cover it with soil. Wait a few weeks to see if it has rooted.
See if there are any suckers that you can dig up and pot.
At least one of these methods...
I just tip the lot into my compost heap and leave it for a few months then dig it out and spread it around. I have never turned a compost heap in my life. Just take the top unrotted stuff off to start the next heap.
I have grown greenhouse cucumbers a couple of times. They have tendrils so I used canes for support and let them twine themselves around them. I did not get any broken stems.
I planted them in 12" tubs with holes about 2" from the bottom so that water was retained in the bottom.
I fed them with...
I let them grow until they are about a quarter of an inch high and then separate them into small clumps. I fill a tray with compost, smooth it over and then make rows of dents in it and place the clumps in these dents. It takes a lot of patience and nimble fingers. It is ok to have 5-10...
If you freeze it raw it will go soggy when you defrost it. I haven't tried freezing it cooked. Have a look in the freezer department of your local store to see what you can/can't freeze.
We tried growing potatoes in tyres and it did not work well for us. There were a few tubers in the top tyre but none lower down. I carefully earthed them up as the shoots grew and kept them well watered, then put on another tyre and repeated the procedure until we had 3 tyres high. I would not...
Tomorrow I am intending to sow purple sprouting broccoli in a pot on the windowledge, and it is time to think about sowing the broad beans. I am considering sowing tomatoes, but it is a little early here in the UK midlands. The potatoes will go in at the end of March or beginning of April.
What can I grow that will produce nesting material for my two hens, and when should I plant it? The temperatures are around 0-10C at the moment and we expect it to go up to 20-30C in the summer. We have plenty of rain usually.
thanks Pat and Silkie. Perhaps I will try them in the greenhouse. Our summer temperatures tend to be around 70-75 F daytime mostly, but we do sometimes get really hot days of up to 100F. We cannot grow melons outdoors, so if they like those kinds of conditions it would not work. I don't think...
Beware. I used to feed my hens loads of left over cooked vegatables and they loved it, but they started to lay thin shelled eggs because they were not eating the layers pellets.
What conditions do you need for growing peanuts?
I live in the UK and we have no frosts from about April to November. Would I be able to grow them here?
I have been trying to grow large sprouts for years but mine are always too small. We need so many for a portion that they take too long to clean up. I live in the UK midlands and our weather is usually around freezing in winter and 70-80 in summer. Does anyone know of any good varieties or...
