Apple tree doesnt lose its leaves

It's a Golden Dorsette with chill hour req. of 150, some say as little as 100. Working on getting a Anna to go along with it. I was reading another thread about the pruning and that has brought on a lot more questions. I have that paperback book that has been talked about ( Backyard Orchardist )...

Apple tree doesnt lose its leaves

I think it's planted at the right depth, it was a container plant when I got it and I just made the top of the container soil even with the yard soil. The tree gets chicken poo from whatever free ranging chicken happens to decide to go there but other then that I haven't done anything to it in...

Apple tree doesnt lose its leaves

Thanks for the replies. If I'm understanding right the excess of cold or chill hours will only hurt the tree if it has already gone dormant and then came out of it. This makes sense and I've heard a few times of people loosing their whole crop because of this. My tree doesn't seem to be ever...

Apple tree doesnt lose its leaves

It's in the backyard with all the other trees and not any where near any lights( no more than any of the other trees) it is the closest to my chicken coop though but I don't think it is enough to change the temperature that much. I guess I need to go out with a thermometer tonight and check...

Apple tree doesnt lose its leaves

I've got a Golden Dorsette apple tree that every year when it should be dropping it's leaves and go dormant it doesn't? Anyone know what might be going on? All the other trees that should drop their leaves currently in my back yard have done so except this one. I'm curious because last year we...

    Anyone pollinate your fruit trees?

My one plum tree came and went with no bees, I tried to hand pollinate but apparently it didn't work. No plums on that tree.:( It was one that would require cross pollination from another tree so I borrowed blossoms from my Santa Rosa. I probably just don't know what I'm doing. Good luck!

    Bees to fruit trees

We live in Arizona, just south east of Phoenix. I would love to keep some bees and we were this close to doing it. Problem for us is we live in the city and have only chain link fences separating us from the neighbors. I've read you can order non aggressive ones but I still think the neighbors...

    Pear tree question

Some pear trees are self fertile and some are not. If its bearing fruit I'd say it's self fertile. As far as being ripe, I think most pears need picked and then stored indoors to let them ripen. ?????

    Bees to fruit trees

Ha ha to funny! I often roam the plumbing isles and listen to the advice that is given and then usually wait till the employee leaves and give the correct advice. Sometimes I do it in front of the employee, need to take pictures of their faces sometime, priceless! So i did the flowers in a...

    Bees to fruit trees

Thanks for the info everyone! I guess I should have planned for this earlier, I was just hoping last year was a fluke. I've got the blossoms opening on pear, plum, apricot, and a few on a apple tree, just never see any activity and they eventually fall off. Self fertile varieties too. I can't...

    Bees to fruit trees

Hello, I was reading some of the ways of attracting bees to the garden area and was wondering if it work for the tree blossoms as well? My early season peach tree had bees all over it but now that all those blossoms are gone the bees have moved on.:( Any ideas? Thanks

Official Arizona Thread! Veggies in the Valley?

Hello everyone, I can't seem to get an answer( at least a good one) as to why my apple tree doesn't blossom, so I decided to bug everyone here in hopes that someone in the same climate would have some good pointers. I have a dorsette golden apple tree that i would guess is 5+ years old. It never...
