    My Fire Escape Garden 2013

HEY GUYS! It's been a while, weather has been sketchy here for the last couple months however my potato, tomato and beans are doing fantastic. My onions have been doing great. Lettuce not so much, but oh well and my cucumber is looking a little worse for wear but he's pulling through. However I...

    My Fire Escape Garden 2013

Yup, I was thinking of doing that since my little poly tunnel is up. We should get a wee bit of sun later this week so I'll stick it out there for an hour or so if the tunnel has heated up enough.

    My Fire Escape Garden 2013

So we got some snow Monday night :( makes me so sad, and my lettuces are growing quickly so I'm going to have to re pot them soon into something bigger. Can't wait for proper spring around here, in other news, my spinach have sprouted as well! :D

    My Fire Escape Garden 2013

Yup, there are drainage holes. You can't see them well but theres tons of them. Pippa (the pug) isn't exactly a lap dog, she's too excitable right now at almost 7 months old.

    My Fire Escape Garden 2013

ninnymary, it's 2ft by 3ft and in the summer gets sun all day. I love to garden, but haven't had a chance to in the last few years due to living either in student residence (well, I lived in a student boarding house off rez but wasn't in school) or living here, with not a lot of outdoor space...

    My Fire Escape Garden 2013

So many of you know that my fiance and I live in a tiny 450 sq. ft. apartment and have only a fire escape as outdoor space. Our plan is to grow a number of vegetables in our limited amount of space using mainly planters, however keeping them off the fire-escape floor is key! We designed a box...

    Hello from Ontario!

They're actually strawberry containers from costco! We go through A LOT and I mean, 3 boxes of strawberries in a week kind of a lot. Aha, can't have cookies around here -- as my fiance says, control starts at the store!

    Hello from Ontario!

Would you believe we had MORE pigeons just last summer? Our buildings roof had a huge hole in the side of it (over our apartment, go figure) and the pigeons were living in it. Now there are far few pigeons -- though still a pest. and this weird tail-less squirrel but he's mostly about in the...

    Hello from Ontario!

It faces west, and gets quite a lot of sunlight in the summer. Like, it's basically only in shade in the evenings. Sometimes.

    Hello from Ontario!

And actually, to add, the box that will sit on the roofline, the bit of roof it will sit on is actually the one visible in the second photo as you look straight on. It has what we call the "stink pipe" coming out of it, from downstairs, and between the railing and that pipe will be a box with...

    Hello from Ontario!

Aha, so I can finally post some photos of what I'm working with here! So this view is from my back door looking out onto the fire escape landing, on the left is my downstairs neighbours kitchen roof and we're going to be fitting a box to sit right over the peak, that will be the box that has...

A sign of spring in New York

One of the neighbouring houses near me has a crab apple that is in bud! We too got all that snow in February and it's finally starting to melt off. My front lawn (which is probably 10ft by 5ft was about 4ft deep in snow until last week.
