Your Pride and Joy Of The Season

Speaking of sunflowers....and by the way, that bouquet is lovely!...........I planted Maximilian perennial sunflowers and was very pleased with them. I'm not a sunflower fan but planted them for the birds and for color along the side of the house. But after seeing that bouquet, I think I'll...

What would you like to do differently in next year's garden?

Last spring we turned soil that had not been turned in at least twenty years. What we did was till, plant, water and organically fertilize a 2-decade accumulation of a wide variety of weed seeds! It's amazing how many different weeds are out there in the garden, some as tall as my shoulders...

so excited about Weck canning jars!

I always need money! But I looked on ebay for Weck jars and did find some auctions, tho the prices are still a little more than I like. Sigh. I think I'll check freecycle and post a "wanted" ad on craigslist to see if any turn up at a better price.

    Goatheads!!!

After doing some research on the 'net, I found that the only really effective treatment is to introduce punctureweed weevils into the local environment. From what I have read, they do not attack other plants, but can erradicate puntureweed. Here's a paragraph from the Wikipedia article. Below...

old clawfoot tub memorial garden... suggestions?

For painting the rainbows and such on the tub, you can use Patio Paint, which is a permanent, weather-resistant paint made for outside use. I painted some rocks with it and the painting was still clear and bright after several years. You just have to be careful with it, as it won't wipe off...

    Goatheads!!!

We have goatheads.......punctureweed...........all over our property and they are a pain, quite literally. I have gotten stuck right through my shoes. My poor dog got one in her paw one day and just sat there waiting for me to come fetch her. We have had flat tires on our wheelbarrows and...
