9 month old watermelon

I bought watermelon seeds from rareseeds.com of the Scaly Bark variety. It is supposed to be a long keeper. I have an elderly friend that remembers storing watermelons in their earthen basement as a child. They had watermelons all the way into December. Wish I knew the variety. No telling how many varieties have been lost to time and "buy it at the supermarket". Wish I had a basement too!
