I have a steel shelving unit with four 48" x 18" shelves. I have two 48" 2-tube fluorescent grow lights above each shelf. So that's sixteen 48" tubes total. I can adjust each set of tubes up and down about 10" to keep the light close to the plants as they grow. I usually try to keep the tubes about 2" to 3" above the plants as they grow.
