I just got a new aloe plant, I know if is used for burns and cuts. My questions is how do you harvest the gel?

Don't know how it is supposed to be done, but if I get a burn I cut a piece off my plant and pare back the outer layer. The inside mucus-y stuff is what's held against or rubbed on the burned area. Bigger burns -- like for the grands -- might take a whole leaf.

Not sure if there is a "right" way either, but if you break off a leaf, the aloe will drip out...

You can buy aloe juice at big mart by the gallon jug. Supposedly used for digestion, but I think it would give you the runs.

Can you eat it? I see giant stems (leafs?) in the produce section with the vegetables.
