Usually I lightly till and then salt my asparagus bed each spring before it comes up. This year it came earlier than normal so I didn't get it done. I'm wondering if I can salt it still or is there something else I can do? Hand pulling the weeds is not a choice. The bed is to big for my hands to take doing.

The salt helps keep the weeds down but, you can't do it in the regular garden as it will hurt the plants. I was told that if I salted so the bed was white it would last a couple of years. I don't know if it's the soil here or what but, I have to do it every year.
