Breadseed Poppies

Has anyone tried these before? How did you like them? How does the seed compare to store-bought?

I've been considering these for a while. I like poppies just for looks but love the seed. I find it good on yogurt...

I've also been considering breadseed poppies (a.k.a florist's poppies) for opium production. For a just-in-case we need it painkiller - NOT to get high on it! Chances are such a thing will not be needed but, like I said, just in case.

Anyways I did some reading and read that any of the P. Somniferum poppies can be used for there seed. (I could only find this in two sources, I like to be extra careful.) Can anybody confirm this? I've only found a few on the online catalogs that say they can be used for seed - Elka White, Danish Flag, and Hungarian Blue.

Let me see if I can find a photo for you. I planted bread seed poppies a few years ago. They were really pretty.. white with a purple center and grew to be about 3 to 4 feet tall! It was like a jungle of poppies in my backyard. My husband thought the police helicopters might think we were growing Opium Poppies...

There are lots of temptations in life, SeedO. Some of them come in pretty packages. Well, I guess they all come in pretty packages - it is just a matter of human perspective.

I have some experience with folks in societies where opium is readily available. Usually, it is used with care and, kind of, becomes the province of the elderly during the final years of their life. Many, many will not touch it then or use it only when they've fallen down the backsteps or something.

I was reading something about India the other day. About one of their social programs for helping widows. The story touched on her immediate family and said she had a son who "has lost all of life's motivation." I thought, isn't that well put . . . and why has he? I've never been to India but . . .

There is a risk that comes in pretty packages. Unless a person has faith in reincarnation, there's only one time to go around in life.

Very pretty rebbetzin! Gosh, I love poppies! We have military helicopters fly over often, there's a base nearby. I figure chances are most people wouldn't be able to figure out what type of poppy is being grown, and what our intentions for them are. Spartucus is a very nice looking dog bu the way.

Steev, it's only going to be used in extreme cases, like somebody accidentally hitting themselves when chopping wood. Mostly I plan to use them for their seed and pretty looks. Opium is another use that can be very helpful in the right circumstance though, but it is something that I will have to research further.
