Our low is supposed to be 38 degrees tomorrow!!! I'm bummed, it's way too early to be thinking about covering plants!

Does anyone have any tips for protecting my hanging tomatoes? I can cover the top part of each plant, but cant really figure out how, or if i even need to, close in the bottom. I dont think i'll cover them up for 38 degrees, but may need to soon :/

Where we are here and lookng ahead is a guess. I remember . . . . . . well, we haven't always gotten out of August without a frost . . .

And, this has been such an unusually cool year. Unusual locally while the entire southern tier of the country has been baking in record heat! I believe Wenatchee, WA is the furthest behind, percentage-wise, in the nation for warmth. I was just talking to a Kettle Falls orchardist. He says it must be his worst year in about 15. Few cherries, no apricots, some peaches, I would guess that he has to worry about hard frost and his apple crop!

We still haven't caught up with Devil's Lake, North Dakota! All of the listed Wyoming weather stations with the lone exception of Jackson Hole are ahead of our corner of the US. DD just returned from a trip and reports that there is still snow above 5,000 feet in the Olympic Mountains of western WA. As you said earlier this year, it might be bad for lots of things but it's good for the glaciers at your nearby Glacier National Park!

Heather, I'll take your 38 degrees and give you our 107 high. 47 days here of triple digits is unbelievable and the weather man said last night that this would last into fall.

Holy crap, 107!! That's horrible. I'll just stop whining now and bundle up my babies in the garden. I do have a kerosene lantern, that would probably help, along with draping the whole trellis of the garden in blankets.

I'll see your 107 and raise you with a 115 2weeks ago, hottest summer ever ..and just saw the weather guessers forecast and it was all 100 plus for the next week and beyond

2 weeks ago we had a high of 112! My tomatoes look TERRIBLE! They are calling for 80's all this week into the weekend, so I'm crossing my fingers this lasts. I'm really bummed out this summer turned out to be hot and dry. Worse then the winter was.

I cant imagine 38* in the middle of August...It has cooled down here a bit lower than usual but not that close to frost yet...another couple of weeks tho...My Tomatoes are STILL GREEN...I need a little more warm weather please...

Heh, you'd think i'd realize after 12 years here that summer is SHORT. But every fall it's such trauma for me!! especially this year, with so many promising green tomatoes hanging out, and thanks to you guys reminding me, i actually got some secondcrops in, maybe on time?! I justdont want winter just yettttttttttttt. (whoops, whining again!)
