I found a little beetle-type bug in my beets this morning. It is a tiny bug that is yellow and black striped. I only caught a quick glimps of it before it skittered away and hid amongst the beet greens. Anybody have any idea what it is and whether it is a pest or beneficial to my veg garden? My beet tops have a few little holes in them, but not much to really notice at all.

OK, I realize its near impossible for somebody to ID my bug without a pic. However, I was able to ID it myself using an online bug guide I discovered. Seems I've got a ___ ____ cucumber beetle. You see, my beets are planted in front of my cucs. GRRRRR.

I'm waging a war right now with the Spotted Cucumber Beetle as well.

I'm handpicking constantly basically to try to keep populations down. Spraying with a garlic/onion/pepper spray and keeping an eye on things.

OC Farmer, my solution to the immediate problem isn't that difficult. Its time to harvest the beets.
