I don't have a pic and can't locate one on the net of the bug that I found in my outdoor potted planter. The planter used to have a rose bush growing in it but the rose bush died (the only one to die by the way). There is nothing but potting soil in the pot now. The bug looked like a beetle, but sort of flatter. Its body alone was almost the size of a quarter. It was dark brown in color with a definate exoskeletan and had really LONG antennae that also looked spikey. When my daughter sprayed it with the hose, it sounded like pop rocks going off. I live in the PNW if this might help anybody to identify this bug. Unfortunately, for me and the bug, DS fed it to the chickens before I could get a pic of it.

Sounds like a cockroach. They have really flat bodies and long antennae. Probably a good idea to feed it to the chickens.
