I have lots of apples, and will freeze some for later use in pies, but I was also wondering about making and freezing applesauce. I don't do canning, but have a nice huge chest freezer. Last year my apples went bad because I did nothing with them. I hate to waste food.

Lesa is right.

I don't know how you plan to use it. We put 1 cup of applesauce in a ziploc-type freezer bag since some of our recipes call for that measured amount. We also put 1 tablespoon on a sheet of waxed paper on a baking sheet, freeze it, then put the frozen clumps in a ziploc-type bag. That way you can remove a small measured amount without thawing the rest.

I always freeze a bunch. I put very little sugar in mine, so I'm always afraid to can it. Freezing in bags seems to save more space than using jars (plus, I always overfill the jars & end up with a mess!).
