Thank you.
Thank you.
Steve, Yes, I do need to check in more often. It has been a crazy few years, not on line much just getting back to it now. Thank you for your input, I will show my husband the thread and all the advice.@cknmom , you haven't posted on TEG in a long time!
You should commit to staying around and telling us everything about gardening. And, if you disagree with any of my comments, you can claim seniority .
I am inclined to agree that drilling holes in a damaged trunk may not be a good idea. I am far from being a tree care person and especially not a surgeon. If it wouldn't damage the looks of your garden, I would be very inclined to use a pair of short lengths of an old hose and some good quality wire. Something like what might be used to attach a transplanted tree to 1 or 2 stakes.
The wire could pass through the hose sections several times to provide some strength. Then a piece of pipe could be used to tighten the wire by twisting it. It wouldn't be especially strong and you would have to assess its adequacy for the job but it might take enough stress off the tree.
Now, I'm hoping that others will weigh in on this. There is a longterm investment in trees. It would be a shame to lose one that you especially like.
