Cannas Seed Pods/How to harvest?

I have a large cannas 'bunch' in a flower bed near my chicken coop....and I would like to remove the seed pods for next year. Do any of you know how to do this?
The pods are green and prickly right now, so I assume I need to wait until they dry up. Then what?

I'm a newby on the computer and the forum but have been reading for a few months. The seeds are so tiny in the Canna. Can you take a tuber from the bottom and plant it? That is how I do mine. I have them all over the yard and the neighborhood!!!
