Hi,
I live in Northern NH and I have the chance to get some Chestnuts and would like to plant them ,
problem is I am not sure how to do so.
Do I soak the nuts till the case is soft then score the shell, or do I put them in the refrigerator and let the cool for a few weeks then plant?
Or like peach and apricot seed just chill and plant the whole thing?
I would love to have 2 or 3 of these trees as the hubby loves roasted chestnuts. but am not sure if I am qualified to propagate them correctly.
thanks for all your advice and help.

Hey! Lucky for you, chestnuts are one of the few nut/fruit trees that grow true if you plant the seeds!(NO GRAFTING) We've always planted 10-15 chestnuts in a hill(no soaking or scoring) and let them come up for a year or two - then picked the strongest and planted them where we wanted them. Of course it takes a few years to get chestnuts this way but it is really easy to do. Good Luck!

Thank You for the reply.
I will try it this way.
I wasnt sure if they needed scoring like some of the other nuts.
Thank You.
