T/Y for the site info, it looks like I will have to rethink my chicken varieties when its time to replace my layers. so many chickens to choose from so little space.

I made an interesting discovery this year, when I added to my flock. Our first chickens were Rhode Island Reds. I picked them because I had read they were very winter hardy birds. Turned out they hated snow (which resulted in emergency building of a "sun room" for them). This time I got Buff Orpington's , Black Austorlorp's and a few EE's. They don't seem to even notice the snow!! If it is very windy they take cover, but other than that seem quite happy in the cold and snow. Definitely glad I experimented- our winter is too long to spend it huddled up in the corner!
