Last night I put a whole chicken in crock pot, covered it with water, set on low and went to bed. When I woke up kitchen smell great, but when i checked pot, chicken had turned to mush. Reminded me of can catfood. Mush had no taste and was filled with bones some tiny. I threw it out, what went wrong ? Chicken over cooked?

Nyboy, chicken doesn't take all that long to cook in a crockpot. Maybe 3 hours, and it will be very tender. You might want to experiment someday when you are there to check on it occasionally, as I would think crock pots can differ in their temperatures. That way you can impress your friends next time you have someone over for dinner.
I like to cook pork roast with asada seasonings, and I usually end up cooking it too long. It is hard to find just the right amount of time.

Do a little dumpster diving and retrieve the meat ... dogs gotta eat you know ! Next time remove the bones, and just add a little corn, beans, noodles, etc. ... Walla Campbells chicken soup... enjoy !!! :th

I'm open to ANYTHING. I know Thistle is too. :D

Mary

Oh boy, I would love to have an estate chef! And an estate!!
DH is pretty good at toast, but all the more complex dishes are my territory. Like fancy French cooking...i.e. French toast.

Maybe Mary, Bee, and I could hire you on a rotation. You ride your moped clockwise around the country.....might need to do more noodling on that concept....

I'd roast it first in the oven, take off the meat and set aside, then put the bones, drippings, etc. in your stockpot with onions, celery, bay leaves, salt and whole peppercorns and simmer for a few hours. Don't let it boil. It makes your broth cloudy. A half tablespoon of white vinegar will draw more goodness out of the bones (and you won't taste the vinegar) and roasting the chicken first makes for a more savory broth. Whole chickens are pretty cheap. You must try again!
