Chickens dust bathing in rose bushes

Our chickens have dug a large hole where we have one of our roses planted, they will dust bathe in it. I have observed as many as 3 chickens at one time together. I quess because it is shaded and next to our creek it is very comfortable for them. When you have chickens it is just one of those things.

Maybe the chickens think it is a "scented" bath. Go figure-I still can't figure out why my dogs like to find the "stinky" thing in the yard-usually something dead or unidentifiable-and roll in it? To me that is the equivalent of me cleaning out the old moldy stuff in the back of the fridge and rubbing it on my wrists and neck. Boy, that would be attractive!
