Beautiful house, Cat! I like the wreath as well.

Lights on my house in the sticks would be a waste so I don't. I do have Christmas bells/chimes that I hang out on Christmas Eve and Day so visitors can enjoy the music as they walk to the door. They play a series of 12 Christmas carols. It is a lovely thing to hear on a crisp winter night.

My research rather showed that private residences didn't do much with Christmas lighting until the mid 50s because lights were not usable outside. There were several public light shows -- one going back to the inventor of the incandescent bulb.

I remember our early 50s lights on the Christmas tree as being rather big (like night lights) and very hot, so even on the tree the length of time the tree was lit wasn't very long and never left lit when we left the room or the house.

I don't understand the my house can't be seen from road so I don't do lights. The lights are for the people living in the house. Xmas trees can't be seen from road, but people still put them up.

Many of us don't stand out in the snow gazing at our houses for long periods of time NYboy.

In the winter I'm inside by dark, and dh usually gets home before dark too if he can manage it. We are also close-to-homers in the winter, so going out and coming back to pretty lights isn't going to happen.
The thought of putting up and taking down isn't appealing to me at all.

Your laser light setup sounds interesting though. The three neighbors that live beyond our house might enjoy seeing some pretty lights...

One of my former parents live on Christmas Tree Lane where everyone goes over the top with lights! We love going to their Christmas party and then walking down the street trying to burn some of those calories. I can see the people strolling by thinking "Oh they're having a party. Wish I was there." as they look at their house. When the carolers stop to sing we all come out and join them.

For indoors, do you remember those bubbling lights? the liquid would get hot and bubble, I guess. That doesn't sound very safe now, does it?

They were mesmerizing!

We didn't have them long. Those bubble lights had important up and down and they were Hot! I very nearly bought a set when they reappeared but, like all Christmas shopping, left it to those who enjoy the experience more than me.

DD is quite the consumer enthusiast. Maybe we are lucky she has so little time and is no longer, herself, in retail sales. I did get a lesson in consumer electronics this holiday season. But, ya know what? I can see that Millennials claim that ground, enthusiastically!

I told my Gen X son that they have begun holding doors for me (olde Boomer) and I'm looking forward to the girls calling me "sweetie" .. . The iGens coming along will be a mystery since I'm still not a grandfather (and might never be). I plan to be hanging out more in the front yard before and after the school day at the nearby elementary. Research, you know. But ... I figure that Millennials (and maybe iGens) will be stringing lights and building holiday displays for me, soon .
