Cold Weather Composting

Thanks boggy, I've been neglecting my pile for sure. I haven't seen much breakdown on the newer pile, as I haven't been turning or working it much.

I have tons of chicken poo to clean out and load up the compost pile with soon.

We're also starting what we call our 'super pile' at the back of the property which will be lots of leaves, animal waste & garden trimmings (including grass clippings) that just amount to a much larger pile then our little black composter can hand. However, the little one is perfect and close by for my kitchen scraps, and our mini coop waste thats close by. It works, just on a smaller scale... which in fact takes LONGER to decompose.

I have the same problem, vfem! :D
I'm trying to get the pile turned as much as possible so its ready for Spring. I still have lots of leaves and other matter to add in there, hopefully it will decompose by Spring.
I researched the other day that urine is good for speeding up the compost pile. I've been saving my own urine for that purpose, it also has nitrogen in it which helps the compost pile. Just hope no one sees me pour urine in the compost....:gig
You got to do what you have to do.

My "cold wearher" compost pile.

Just keep turning it over to the right. First year far left. Put a stump in the back corner to cut up corn stover, brussel sprout stalks etc.
