I was just wondering if anyone knows what the basic composition of scratch grains is?

I understand it may vary from supplier to supplier.

Oats? Millet? Corn? Barley?

I took a bit and placed it on a plate on the windowsill with a moist paper towel over it to germinate if possible.

I think it would be fun to sow some of the chicken scratch in a section and then let the girls out to feed on it as it matures.

Thoughts?

Mainly cracked corn, but some mix in other grains. I mix white millet into my scratch, the girls really like it. You're not going to get cracked corn to germinate, the others might, though.

Yep, your right, cracked corn won't germinate and I don't care.
