Here is the new and improved super-duper-brooder-cooper build out. I screwed everything together so it can be easily removed once the CX are processed. In one pic you can see my best friend Fred helping out a bit with cutting the wire. In another you can see my daughter Elizabeth's boyfriend pretty much doing nothing. He's young but I'll get him whipped into shape before long. He joining the Army and leaving for basic in September. I plan to give them something decent to work with ;) He's a good kid though.

The layers are the only ones that benefited from this build. The CX don't seem to care about anything but the food supply. I did have to move the younger CX to the back of the coop. Tomorrow I am integrating them with the older ones.

This should be the last brooder/coop change until the CX are processed. After that, I will remove the layer brooder wall and give them the run of the place.

Hopefully, this will reduce some of the fighting and pecking problems.

looking good with that redesign. just keep an eye on that insulation. if they can get access to it they will eventually pick away and eat what they can reach. :/ i had experience with it in my previous coop.

Thanks y'all. The chicks like it. Next weekend I am going to build some higher roosts, maybe 6" high. I am also removing the insulation completely once the CX are processed. I was worried that the chicks would eat it if they could. They can't reach it right now though. Today I removed the divider and combined all of the CX chicks. They integrated quite nicely with no fighting at all. I kind of expected that. It seems the CX don't get too excited about anything, except food of course.

I love it! I really want a set up like that :) I'd love to be able to walk into the coop. ;)

The CX weigh 4 pounds already Cane! I can't believe how huge they are. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

Thanks vfem. I hope you're not mad at me about the antibiotic thing. If the weather is nice tomorrow, I am adding a temporary run to the side of the coop to give the layers a place to go outside. We had the outer door open today and all of the layers crowded to the inner door to hang out. I could just see in their faces how bad they wanted to go outside! I have started spreading more grit in the bedding since they love to scratch so much. We are also starting them on grit, free choice, tomorrow in preparation for them going outside.

beautiful looking coop. you've got a real system going. my chickadoodles got to go outside in a pen all day today. gosh, they love to scratch & eat anything sticking up. it's so cute to watch them try to take a dust bath in grass.

are you planning on processing yourself or taking them somewhere. have you ever done it before? I've got all the equip (except I want a cone - which I don't have) but have yet to do the deed. just scared.
