I'll try to get some pictures of them if need be, but I have two unrelated trees, not near each other, that died in the last year, for no apparently reason, both surrounded by other trees which are totally healthy.

One is in the front yard, and is, I believe, a "curly" or "corkscrew" willow tree. It's still quite striking standing there, if a little odd-looking surrounded by leafy crape myrtles. Dead as a doornail.

In the back, in a special cutout spot in the pavement of our patio, is what I think is a Japanese or other ornamental maple. Also stone dead.

Both trees were older and well-established, and seemed to die off last fall. Could there possibly be any related cause that killed them both in the same year, or can I pretty safely write it off as coincidence (if still a mystery)?
