last night went out to eat at a place I eat often. The food has always been very good there. If the specials menu has something I never tried, I will order it. Last night I realize I never had pheasant when I saw it on menu. I didn't think it would taste like chicken, I knew it was mostly dark meat. I was very disappointed the meat was very dry and not tasty. Was it over cooked or is it dry like turkey?

more in likely it was overdone, game birds weather farm or wild are tricky to cook. a properly cooked pheasant is very tender and delicious.

More likely than not, it was overcooked and it is also dry like a turkey. One needs to cook it with LOTS of moisture, then brown the skin . :drool Also , wrap the bird with lots of bacon on top , it will keep the moiture in and add bacon flavor to the bird. :drool The Ringneck Pheasant will cross with a turkey as well as a chicken if kept in secluded pens. I have seen the crossbred offspring at UCD. Not commercially viable venture as the hatch rate is pretty poor :barnie

No Mary I wasn't sure if thats the way it should have been. My frugal friend did have it put in a doggie bag, she said it was for her dog. Bob it did say on menu bacon wrapped. Tender and delicious this bird wasn't. I did find online a lot of pheasant served in restaurants is really guinea fowl.

e Ringneck Pheasant will cross with a turkey ...
Wow! I didn't know that.

We used to have so many pheasants in our fields in southern Oregon ... Mom seemed to know how to cojok them.

Pheasant should be tender and juicy. Guinnea hen IS NOT pheasant. I don't know how they could advertise it as pheasant.

We have one of the state's largest pheasant farm here in Wisconsin and I've had sister-shot pheasant quite often.

Both Guinea and pheasant are good.

Agree with all, mis-cooked.

Anyone ever eat pigeons? My dad used to eat them when he was a kid, living in St Louis, in the 1920's and 30's. "Squab", he said they were called.
