Disappointed With Pheasant

I'M with you on pheasants though. Loved the hunt more than the eating.

jj my lab was tuned for pointing a great retriever in heavy bush, only dog i know that has jumped a grouse once it started to take off. now ducks was another story he could get side track going to retrieve the duck if he saw a carp swimming in the flooded rice field ended up a couple times with a 5 pound carp and no duck..he still got praised for a good job... was very entertaining to watch....

It is good to hear about dogs doing what the breed was bred to do. Around here people buy hunting breeds, then complain about dog being high energy. i tell them if you where suppose to work the fields hunting all day you need the energy. People forget breeds where meant to do a purpose not just be a pet.

will say this both our lab<ava> and <nola> boxer/ border collie mix have become great house dogs. we kept them busy either going to the lure course,dog park or just chasing a tennis ball...

When I got my chocolate lab, Cee Cee, (at an estimated 1.5 years old) I figured she would be a high energy dog. She certainly seemed that way at the humane society adoption center. Brought this jumpy, bouncy dog home in the car -- yup, it was a dangerous ride home -- and let her loose in the house. She tore around the house two times, and laid down beside DH. That was the extent of her energy.

When I go outside to work she comes out, finds a shady spot, and watches me work from her comfortable spot. Of course, she can't resist a thrown ball even after she's well and truly wiped out. Eventually she will go off and hide the ball to stop the game.
