I've been studying this winter, and one of my books has a Soil Temperature/Seed Germination chart for each vegetable, with a chapter for each type. It has been illuminating. For instance, it took 3 weeks for my sugar snap peas, direct seeded, to germinate. You would think that the seeds weren't viable. Nope. Just too cold. :/ ANYWAY, here is a helpful link.

SOOO...if your bed looks empty, don't give up. Just bc the seed package says # of days to germination, THAT means under perfect circumstances with perfect temperatures and conditions. Still, cold weather crops need a lot of water. They'll still grow this year, with a little more time. Last year my cold weather crops did badly, bc we had an early sustaining drought.
