Tornado warning! That is some crazy weather system you get over there!

NO...it keeps you from smelling bad odors if you apply under your nose. It is commonly used in autopsies, and for rotten squash.

It also works as an effective torture treatment on children with colds. My mother was a huge fan of that stuff.

When I was mayor I didn't get a chance to tell these dingbats on the board that Praying for our town, like I tried to do before each meeting, helped us.
West of the town is open fields. NOTHING to stop straight line winds OR a tornado, and, being a weather geek, I have seen too many stories of tiny towns like This one flattened to the ground from a tornado, and I Don't mean a community of trailers.
Somebody knew what they were doing when they built my house. The 2nd floor has no west facing windows, and that helps in a storm.
We have been blessed bc no limbs that have come down in 25 years has hit the house or any of the outbuildings.
Still, gotta fix the back door. It, even locked, blew open twice yesterday. First time the rain came in past the landing and down the steps. Second time the wind dried it all out.

This is a wine stopper that I bought from Binny's (liqours) 3 years ago. They were an endcap for $1/piece.
They had them last year for $2/piece...don't see them NOW.
The tops were gold, light blue, red and pink, and the stopper is rubbery plastic.
They fit Most wine bottles, but I had saved tops from brandy, etc., in the past, a little bit thicker, and sometimes wine bottles are also a little bit thicker. I have already packed 2 of them in one of my suitcases for the Alaska trip end of May.

Youngest DD, who drinks 3 wine bottles worth of water/daily--, YES!! I KNOW!!!--and I plan to drink our way through the cruise.

An Alaskan Cruise, now that sounds like some fun!

I remember the first time I watched the documentary 'Tornado Alley'. It was shocking to me, because being a close neighbour, I assumed I would have known about such a thing. It was in an interview with Thomas Sowell, where he was talking about the fallacies of inequity - he talked about how the US has this Tornado Alley situation. It's just the reality of the US and it's always been that way. So I went looking around for information on this alley, and I was really bowled over. Some people in very affected areas even had underground bunkers they could retreat to.

Everybody in Tornado Alley many years ago had a "storm celler", which was really an entrance to their basement, doors at a 45 degree angle.
Our house in Pennsylvania, probably now about 75yo had one. Don't have one Here, but the SW corner of my basement has no windows full west, for the same reason.

Today I did the 1st/6 PT sessions required for my next left leg knee replacement surgery.
Appt was at 7AM.
PROUD to say that I was 7 minutes early!
I have been a latenik most of my life. I decided last year that I would be on time or early for ALL medical appts.
I stopped at WM and 4 Concord Seedless Grapes hopped into my shopping cart, along with a new package of Alaska peas and Tarragon seeds.
My grapes haven't leafed out yet, so I potted them all in a nice tree sized container in the basement that I melted drainage holes in 2 years ago, put it on top of a damaged piece of bakeware for drainage, and watered with 2 gallons. They are sitting in front of the same window as the sweet potatoes, which have just Taken off.
I am killing a few minutes before my Vet appointment, so I fed ponies and reseeded the fenceline with the Alaska Peas. I think I planted them too deep the first time .
I planted 40 Alaska Peas between 1/4 inch-1/2 inch deep and sifted some soil on top
The Sugar Snap peas aren't up either.
Guess I'll have to replant them, too.

I also liked her video on beginner gardening. She thoroughly explains Hügelkultur without naming it.
I am going to see if I can do this where my tomatoes go this year. I certainly have plenty of sticks and will soon be sawing off saplings, and I can put a layer of 4 mo used stall bedding on the bottom layer. I have dug out 3 ft pits in my big garden many years ago. We'll see what I can do...

Tornadoes waltz across Texas too. Plus hurricanes spin off tornadoes. One in northeast Texas some years back stayed on the ground over 40 miles, cutting a wide path of destruction. Mostly in rural areas, it even picked up cattle and dropped them in other pastures.
