I am putting together another hanger and I thought I would show you how I made this one.

I am not finished with all the pictures on how to do it.

So here is a teaser picture of one I made last night.
I was doing a mountain of dishes and came across 2 chipped plates.
A bell went off! Less to wash next time and a real cool plant hanger.
Best of both worlds!

Here is one completed.
I will be back with detailed pictures of how I did it!

First the supplies.
Wire- about 20' I save mine from door openers. You can get some cheap.
It is just two conductor bell wire. I have been using this wire for 13 years for all kinds of stuff. It is petty strong and lasts for years.

We also need a S hook.
This one is a little small for the job but I have hundreds of them so this is what I will use.

Now we take 2-8' lengths of wire an fold in half.
Join them at the middle.

Give them a little twist on both sides.

Flip your plate and place this wire mess in the middle.
The green lid is just so you can see the wire better!

Place a weight on it to hold down wire.

Take a 4' length of wire and twist onto each of the four wires making a web.

Then go around and twist all four hanger wires to hold them from sliding on the web.

You should end up with this mess!

Put the plate on there and pull the four wires out were they go.

I twist onto the S hook two opposite wires on while holding up in the air to get the length right, then the other two.

OK, on the top where it attached to the "S" hook, do you ever worry about the wire unwinding? Also, on the step after you fold the 2 wires in half over each other, the step where you twist them together - are you taking one end of each strand and wrapping it around the opposite strand?

They will not untwist if you keep them tight and do enough.
The second question; I just pick the wires up at that intersection and twist them a few times. I make sure both sides has a twist to it not just one or the other, this is just to keep the wires from sliding from there spot!

I think that should cover it.

Now are these 'Official' macrame' knots?

I would definitely suggest using some hot glue on those wrapped ends to the s-hook... I know they would unwrap on me!

Cool. I like the fact that speaker/electrical wire like this is so flexible.

I will try my hand at this, but you know...... I am not sure how I am going to keep myself from putting beads on it. BeJeweled and BeDazzled! LOL :rainbow-sun

Be sure to get single wire not like speaker wire.
The little wires in speaker wire are weak.
Look for 2 conductor solid bell wire!

I have been using this twist method for ever.
Look at all these plants. Some hangers are made from the wire but all are hung with one wire and just twisted many times. They can turn but I have yet to have one fail yet.
