Years and years ago when I lived in Southern Arizona I learned about this great tummy herb!

here it is on wiki I have not much to add ..except it smells like old books but is appetizing just the same ..I know that sounds crazy but it is a great herb I love to use it and always add it when I make a pot of beans

if anyone is "gassy" after beans it is because you do not use epazote

It came back year after year in my garden from seeds spreading ..(edited to add "sometimes" it did not come back last year and I had to replant it)

I have 3 plants now I am nurturing and going to keep warm during the winter so I can get a big plant instead of the tiny ones that sprout up in the garden

if you have not tried it ..please do ..if you have please share!

I think I have that in my herb garden. I know it isn't hardy for us here, but my mom bought stuff from Richters and I just put it in. I'll check when I go out and let you know.

I planted it one year and was pleased to see that it reseeded itself for years after. A very intriguing taste sensation when eating a leaf while weeding. It seems to have run it's course or other weeds crowded it out, lol. I miss running across it unexpectedly.

I just bagged up he dry herbage and

harvested the seeds of wonderful smelling plant

my house smells so good it is fresh

I am hoping by a bump maybe someone will know this plant?

or use it? or like it? or hate it?

I prefer fresh leaves if I use it in salad and dried for beans

my base plants are all cut back neatly and in the "green house" type area

I know what you mean because I was shown by my friends grandmother how to make pintos and I can not do it any other way or they are just not right

also I have tried the beans with out and with had a house full of obnoxious teenage boys and girls and it was evident the beans that had the epazote made for a quieter evening :p

you have to put some dried epazote in them or suffer the consequences!

I miss it if it is not there!

making perfect pinto beans is an art imho many people screw them up badly!

do you grow it obesessed?

I never grew it just cooked with it. It is easily accessible in an East L.A. Market. But since I left Cali I have not had it. :( I didn't think it would grow in Montana and didn't get it to plant this year. But I think it would grow really well here.
