Attractive To Bees
I started our Fall crop this week, I got the beets planted and just finished planting the garlic, can't wait to see them start to sprout..

I have wondered about beets for a fall crop . . .
They have just turned a bright purple and failed to grow in summer heat when I've sown them late. But, I wonder how they'd do sown after the weather begins to cool.
I have some Perpetual Spinach that I very nearly sowed with the Asian greens seed that went in just a few days ago. I had fully intended to sow the Perpetual Spinach seed in the spring and forgot it. It is a beet/Swiss chard relative. Trying it late kind of defeats its special value. Like the others it is biennial and won't bolt to seed during the summer. The greens taste more like beets than Swiss chard to me - I like that
and they can be harvested for greens right now, while it is especially hot. The beet greens will soon not be so good even tho' the roots are now large and sweet.
