This morning my wife received 3 different notices for 3 different orders with Office Depot for $488.57 lap top computers to be picked up at Office Depot stores in Georgetown, Texas and at 2 different stores in Austin, Texas. The credit card information for Visa was for our last name, but different first name for my wife. The credit card numbers were no where near what ours are and we are in Washington State. She immediately called Office Depot to tell them that she did NOT place the orders, to cancel the orders, that we live in Washington State and NOT in Texas, and that these orders may be a FRAUD attempt. :old

time to have the bank close that account.. we been hit 3 times over the years and had them open 3 new accounts... fingers crossed been good for the last 7 years...
only order from trusted merchants sites...

I just had Discover call about an $8.95 charge on our card, to an internet shoe store. They actually asked about 5 or 6 recent transactions and all but the shoe one we were aware of.
When we said the shoe one wasn't made by either of us the fellow from Discover said "that's the one we're concerned about"
He said it was denied but they needed to close out this account and transfer us to a new account.
I wish I had asked him what raised a red flag about this charge, any way we had new cards the next day so there was no real problem on our end.
Never had anything like this happen before!!!

For online purchases we have debit credit cards, we just put enough in to cover whatever purchases we are making. Our bank has been instructed they are not allowed to transfer money from our other accounts if there's not enough to cover the purchase. They also know our spending habits and if they see anything suspicious they phone us before putting it through. This has worked very well for us.

@aftermidnight

My debit card is for checking and savings ..

. It's interesting that a bank is okay with setting up a third account and issuing a separate card for it.

Rich with credit card theft, theif will make a very small purchase to see if card will work. If purchase goes though you can bet much larger ones will follow.

Someone else told me the same thing.

We have just decided not to use cards anymore. I only use cash except on line purchases and that will be with a card that only has a few hundred dollars limit....

I use a credit card for almost everything I purchase.
The fact that they almost all have cash back programs is what draws us.
We always pay the full statement each month, I wish we could have done that when we were younger.
This is the first time there has ever been a problem and the CC co. caught it right away.
I don't have any idea where someone got the card info, we don't use this for online or phone purchases.
My greatest concern is when it's used in a restaurant, and the waitress leaves your table with your card and goes to the register to run it. Those are about the only time it's out of my sight.
