I live in western Kentucky (zone 6A) and have clay and sandy soil. I'm looking into getting some fruit trees from stark bros and am doing lots of reading to find out which trees would grow best in my area. I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions or personal experience that could help me out?

Good advice Cat.
My experience is slightly warmer than your location. Different varieties of the same thing, like apples, will have different cooling requirements. Some of the things I’d expect to do well in your area would be apples, pears, cherries, and plums but you need to get the right varieties for your location. Your county extension agent can probably help you with that.
Zone 6A can cover a lot of ground. I am on the border of 6 and 7, so when I get a fruit tree, I look for something that does well in 5, 6, 7 and 8. I try to not get too precise.
