Good grief, how big was their family anyway? That's 6 quarts a day!

@canesisters, that photo was put in the garden-humor-thread why? It looks like slave labor knowing that all this was done during the heat of summer's bounty. 'Sides, one good push and the family starves.

1932 was the depression going on then? Might have been the only way to feed the family. My grandmom had 13 kids plus 2 adults to feed with very little money. To this day getting my father to throw something out is like pulling teeth.

I suspect they were gleaning fields and such to get that much produce to can, and not knowing how much they would find the following year.
