Giving Tuesday

I am hard to shop for, so I feel sorry for my DH. Not many chickens would tolerate being tied up in a bow, nor do they stay put when you place them under the Christmas tree. ;) I like receiving a gift that has had some thought put into it, not just for the sake of getting something, and even better if it's a surprise on just any old day. If I could get eye contact and an uninterrupted conversation with my husband, I would definitely enjoy that! Usually for Christmas we just shop for the kids, ours and the nieces and nephew.

I gave to one particular charity a few years back and I know they gave out my address because I have been deluged with others after that. I quit giving to them because of this, although otherwise I would have considered it a worthy cause. Been at least 2 years since I sent them any money and I still constantly find their "free" gifts in the mail. :\

The local community house posts a list of all the donors names with the amount they donated. In the land of keeping up with the Jones, people donate large sums of money.just so friends don't talk about them being cheap.

I give to one organization each month and have done so for the past 3 or so years...for the longest time they were sending constant updates on the folks I was supporting and a lot of promotional type stuff that one would send to solicit for more donations of the same type. I finally wrote and told them they could use the money they wasted on mailing me all these things to support another person in need, so please stop sending me that stuff...and they stopped!

Wise choice. I was almost to the point I was going to withdraw my contributions for that reason only.

Here's a good site... http://www.charitynavigator.org/

You can look them up and see their financial info, how much they pay their CEO, what percentage goes to administrative costs and what actually goes toward their mission, etc. They rate them on a 4-star system accordingly.

That's a great site but it doesn't rate any charities that don't have to pay taxes, such as missions. Neat idea, though!
