Those are GORGEOUS green onions!! That reminds me, i think i have some leeks and onions in the garden still...better get them out, chance of SNOW later this week, ridiculous!

They sure were beautiful, and I bet they were darn yummy too!!!

I'm having issues getting my garlic to sprout, which needs to happen this month if I want some in the early summer to harvest. I couldn't afford to buy onion starts though this year. So disappointing I couldn't get those in.

digits, they look wonderful! Did you plant from seed or set? (is that the correct terminology?) I'm sure you know what I mean. They look so close together. My first attempt this year for onions (red) were very small but tasty. So I am eager to learn as we spend a lot of money on onions and potatoes. If I could grow a nice crop that would be better. Nice job to you!

And, every means available were used to start 'em: seed, sets and plant starts.

Okay, I didn't have leeks this year AND - I don't have the green onions right now . . . I was just inspired by the song .

I was also inspired by those Ovation onions in the pan . Sauteed, they went in with some nice ripe tomatoes, a couple carrots, a little milk, and some cheddar cheese - for Tomato Soup! Ovation is turning out to have been a good choice this year! It is supposed to be a good keeper but sweet as well. Right now, I can testify that it is sweet!

Ovation can stay down on a basement shelf with a nice box of Sterling Whites. I grew that variety a couple years ago and was very pleased with its size and how well it stored. However, I see a few very negative comments from gardeners about this one. It did very, very well in the garden again this year but the other gardeners had storage problems. Also, I cannot buy the seeds for Sterling! I don't mind being somewhat dependent on a Texas farm for my very largest onions but . . .

Sets are set out along with the shallots for my very earliest planting of the year. Then, I'll just keep plunking a few in every week or so. I would be happy to keep that up all thru the growing season but those little bulbs don't keep too well in the fridge after a couple of months.

Hoodie wanted to know about the other bunching onions that I grew from seed: Red Goddess was okay, colorful but got a little tuff, a little quick. Gallop was great but seed germination was poor. I had that problem when I've grown 4 Season also - good scallions but . . . Every darn one of the Tokyo White seeds pop up!

Steve, those pumpkins came out beautiful!!! It looks the dreaded vine borers never found your pumpkin patch! I am having a terrible time with my storage onions- rotting from the inside. I think I am going to bite the bullet this weekend, and chop them up and freeze them (before I lose them all.)
