Thistlebloom- they are in the tomatillo family. They look like marble size tomatillos and taste like various sweet fruits. Mine are a breed called Aunt Mollies Ground Cherries and taste like a cross between a cherry, pineapple, & grape. :drool

My DW has also made muffins and put them in instead of blueberries - yummy. As some have said also be prepared for many to emerge next year. Each berry has many seeds. If you like them all you have to do next year is wait for them to germinate.
I forgot to add that when they are ripe they turn from green to yellow.
