The Harvest Moon was still up early enuf for me to benefit from its light, last night. I've appreciated that moonlight during both the evening and the early morning hours. It may not be of much benefit this week which is supposed to have lots of clouds.

The light from Jupiter won't quite be the same, there in the eastern sky before sunrise . . .

But the day/night lengths don't equalize, at least at fort bragg california, until almost a week later. Why is that???

My coffee must have kicked in just right Digit. I understand it. :p

They talk about "day" starting when the first sliver of sun peeks above the horizon, and ending when the last sliver of sun dips below the horizon. Those are artificial beginnings and endings of the day because everything else counts the exact center of the sun.

But to add to that, they also take into account that the atmosphere bends the image of the sun up to above the horizon a tad before it's really there in the morning, and a tad after it sets in the evening.

:D

(Did the ole neanderthal understand it right, or do I get a D+ for at least putting a good try to it?)

As I heard it this morning, I won't experience the 12 day/12 night hour thing until Sept. 26. That's because the autumnal equinox occurs at the equator today. We are at a higher latitude so the effect won't happen here until 4 days later. Or so THEY say.

Ahhh Autumn. Ranks right up there with Spring. Not crazy about hot summers and cold winters.

THE EQUATOR ACTUALLY HAS NO DAY AND NIGHT THAT ARE EACH 12 HOURS SEQUENTIALLY.

Believe it or not

You're going to quibble about 30 seconds? That's how day length will differ from night length here in south-est, central-est Wisconsin.
