Happy Thanksgiving!!!

The snow storm was a dud. Had a great trip to Connecticut. Lots of food and home backed desserts. Lots of laughing screaming babies. Too much fun. Forgot to take pictures.

Glad you had a great time. We ALWAYS forget to take pictures too!! Next time, I think that I'm going to pass out those little disposable cameras as people arrive and say "You can't leave till all the pictures are used up."
... might get a LOT of pictures of people standing around putting on their coats... LOL!!!

The kitchen towels and potholders are out of the dryer and back in their drawer. DD and her boyfriend's box of leftovers are waiting for their return from that big box electronics store. Garbanzo and Waffles are asleep in my lazyboy .

The meal was very traditional. I forgot the greens I have been inflicting on participants. DW's planned green bean casserole cut the legs out from under me! Oh, it was fine.

Thursday was not the day because of DD's work. This really felt like Thanksgiving dinner, no question. We had pie -- Wow, did we ever!

@seedcorn says that without pictures, it never happened. Well, I'm just gonna claim that I had my digitS' in too many pies to pose any!

First there was all that squash and the result: 4 pies, 2 in the freezer along with several "extra" bags of squash for later. We will see how that works later ...

Making my mother's traditional Golden Delicious apple pie for Thanksgiving is problematic! Oh, the quality of the pie(s) is wonderful! However ... Golden Delicious is a good choice for a pie made in September or October.

It was okay but the decision was to use the entire box from the orchard, without further delay! The result: 7 apple pies! DW did an outstanding job with the rolling pin! Good thing she didn't hit my apple-peelin' digitS'!

I mixed the pie filling in one of the big basins we use for washing summer veggies. Pictures would have almost been on par with @w_r_ranch !

Happy Thanksgiving Steve! That's a lot of pie! I assume you'll be freezing some? I was looking into good pie apples and found a cooking blog that tested a range of pie apples and Golden Delicious came in the winner for taste and texture. Your mom really knew her stuff!

I have some I bought waiting for me in the garage to make pie filling from. I hope I haven't held them too long.

My wife made a H U G E apple + blueberry pie, 2 MMMMMmmm ( pumpkin-- according to grandkids) pies, 2 banana cream pies, 2 cherry pies,for desert ... as for leftovers ... N O N E ... all gone ... just some crumbs in the pie dishes

That is usually the rule here. Pie leftover since no one wants more to eat. If leftover I eat it for the next week. I DO not need more pie. Made 2 cherry. 1 & 1/3 left over!

Of course, most of the pies went to the freezer altho DD took a half plate of each variety home. I'm not happy about this. Not about DD taking pie home.

No, I haven't been happy with frozen pie. The crust doesn't hold up well and that is my favorite part. It gets soggy and takes on freezer taste.

We have never frozen the filling. I'm even a little uncertain about freezing that cooked squash - nothing added. I figured DW would be the one making the crust anyway so she should be the one deciding when. I did handle the baking so she could take a nap.

You can buy frozen fruit pie filling ... or, am I wrong about that?

bobm, that sure are alot of pies! My goodness and they were all gone?

I make 2 pumpkin pies but we only eat one. The other my daughter takes home half and we keep the other half. That's plenty for us.

Gypsy's lemon meringue went -- stuffed eaters or not -- all but one small piece I put away for her to eat later. I totally forgot about it until just now and Gypsy won't be back until after school Monday. No one would expect a piece of lemon meringue to sit around that long, would they?

Her pumpkin pie was left, sad and forlorn to rest another day in the refrigerator. DH and I each had a small piece. Of course, I had my slice with coffee. That is, I bumped my coffee cup and tipped the whole cup out on my pie plate. That meant the crust was soaked, but the pumpkin custard was delicious.

The rest of that pie went home with Gypsy on Friday -- that's my usual plan to get things I would otherwise eat myself OUT OF THE HOUSE! Speaking of eating, I hear that lemon meringue calling my name.
