Anyone know if a hardy hibiscus will make it through the winter in a pot in zone 6? I don't have room for it in the ground, and if I put it in the giant pot I have, it's going to be verrrry hard to move it.

I am in zone 8A and it is ifffy on making it here. But I can and will make in most winters. And on colder winters with some mulch. could you drag it into the garage? maybe for the winter? Or go with a Rose of Sharon. They are just as nice with just as beautiful blossoms but most will make it in oyour area.

I've already bought it. The flowers are sooo pretty, and it was on sale! I think I might rearrange my bed and squeeze it in somewhere. Otherwise, I'll bring the pot in, just to be safe.

Do you know which variety it is?
If it is truly a hardy type, it should be winter hardy to zone 4 or 5 without protection. They will survive winter here, outdoors in a large pot.

The smaller, more compact types are better for pots. If it is one of the larger growing varieties, I would put it in the ground.
Mine are just starting to bud... :weee

Just came back from Long Island. My In-Laws have 2 in huge pots. They use a dolly and store them in the garage (unheated) for the winter and bring them out in the spring...They looked nice and healthy- they are the braided ones, that is always appealing to me...
