Harvesting Black walnuts

How does one go about getting the green shell off the black walnuts. I've been hitting them with a hammer and then pealing it off, I was just wondering if I could do anything faster.

Also how does one get the shell to break with out smashing the nut inside.

Any tips would be awesome.THANKS!

lay them out on the ground till they turn black then walk over them in old shoes or drive over them. heres a previous thread
