Herb Fertilizer?

I am using high nitrogen organic fertilizer on my vegetables in my square foot garden-is it ok/encouraged for my herbs (dill,basil,chives,catnip)?

Basil does well in good garden loam, but none of those plants need high nitrogen fertilizer, as a matter of fact you'll lose flavor if you fertilize any of them too heavily.

I've always been told to leave my herbs be! They can grow in almost any soil, they are not super picky and they will THRIVE! I wouldn't fertlize them like Rein said.
