I hope I am posting this in the right category. I would call this plant a shrub more than anything, I guess.

Hibiscus coccineus, scarlet hibiscus, is a beautiful plant that is native to our area. I've tried to start seeds twice (once this year, once last year). I learned I had to scarify seeds after last year's misguided attempt, but still didn't see anything happen this year.
I am wondering if anyone out there grows this plant and if so, what methods do you use to sprout it?

Also, once I have it going, I know it needs a moist, sunny area. I have moist, shady areas or dry, sunny areas in my yard. Hmm... what to prioritize? I'm leaning more towards putting it in the moist, shady area... I dunno.

Anyone out there have some tips?
