if you put down some edge barrier between the grass and the garden you'll delay the inevitable invasion. cardboard will hold for a short time period, plastic will hold longer but eventually it degrades and can become a problem. ultimately what helps is a controled pathway around the edge (which takes up space and labor but it saves over the longer haul).

Japanese flowering cherry. The two year old likes to shake the branches to make the petals drift down

there is a pest in the garden

And I had to dig up a huge rock

They dig up all those underground grubs though, so fewer other pests during growing season.

The peas turnips and chickpeas are doing well

There is something endearing about growing chickpeas. I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason I just love growing them.
