So I harvest my popcorn. I didn't let it dry in the field cause the bugs were just eating it up. It is mostly hard but definitely no popable (I tried). Is there anyway to dry it out faster than just waiting?

I live in the south and with our humidity mildew is a concern.

Wow! Are you talking about popcorn you planted this year?!? I'm still having a hard time getting used to other people's growing seasons :)

In WI, we plant in May, harvest in Sept/Oct and let it dry mostly in the husk. Since you don't have that option, I would find a very dry room in your home (do you dehumidify?) or husk and shell it in a large oven-proof container and put it on extremely low heat in your oven to dry it out more. Sounds like you already know about testing batches for "popability."

Good luck!

me&gals - I know how you feel about the whole season thing. My summer garden is just about to end. I do get a whole nother warm season in August thru October and then the cool season pretty much til December and in to Jan with some care. Summer is my real down time.
