Ideas For Disguising Garbage Can.

Garbage can dressed like a bag lady has my vote. That's brilliant Steve!
@w_r_ranch I love those tubs! I have about 6 of them, they make great planters!

Hello! I'm new to this group and a year later on this thread. I have a fig tree that I am transplanting- it's about 7 ft tall and I needed something moveable. My big idea, was the 64 gal trash can. It's sturdy and I'm sure if I'm hauling it around on uneven ground it's going to serve me well. I had thought about dressing it up a bit, but prob won't. I was glad to hear an "old timer" gave the original idea and that in itself boosts my confidence on my choice, hooyah for Wisdom. I'm going to take a drill bit, unsure of exact size and drill bottom for proper drainage and the sides for increased circulation around trunch.

This thread is a gem!

Hi, Sittingdoe, and welcome to the friendliest gardening forum around.
You can start a new thread and tell us a little about you and your gardening addiction, if you like.
Otherwise, we will draw the information out of you slowly..... :p

Welcome worked out great, just drill a lot of drainage holes. Because mine where going around hot tub looks where important. I made(ok guys at work made) panels 4 for each. Will post photos next.

I use 4 to make a box, use eclectic cable ties to keep togather

Neat result, Nyboy. One would never guess the plant is homed in a trash can.

Welcome, @Sittingdoe! I am happy you have found us here at TEG. A trash can should do a great job holding your fig tree. I keep my fig trees in much smaller pots, but then, mine aren't 7 foot tall. I do like your idea of the trash can. I just might try that for my own trees and let them grow tall and free.

I need to be able to move mine to shelter during the winter months here in south-est, central-est Wisconsin. You might have a milder winter climate there in Washington.

So glad to have you growing with us.

Nyboy, I am old, I am weak, I am no about to lift any more heavy pots if it can be avoided. I have all my heavier pots on wheeled stands already. I figured out the wheels part of the trash can as being the more important aspect to growing in them. Thank you for the cautioning reminder, anyway.
