. . . always seems to have a winner and a loser. Right now, it looks like Nesco lost his place as flock leader. Not my choice of course. He spent one night in a nesting box and took off at a double pace once I opened the coop door for the day. Bloody head, collar feathers, wattle and comb with feathers torn from his head. Sigh! He looked pretty rough until I cleaned him up and gave him a safe space in the garden shed for the night.
Thing One didn't come out looking much better even if he 'won'. He has bloody comb, wattle and face, with a chunk of feathers missing from his under-neck. I suppose he's due for a clean-up once the birds are roosting for the night.
I really didn't expect this outcome. Nesco is bigger and has well-developed spurs that are more than twice as big as Thing One.
